Hotelli Balkan Hotel Garni

We felt completely deceived by how nicely the website described this hotel. We were planning to eat dinner there and to have the bar available for soft drinks, wine and ice. Neither offer daytime or evening service and only breakfast is served. The shuttle to the airport does not exist and we had to pay our own taxi. Luggage service does not exist and we had to carry our own bags to the second floor hotel. The taxi took us to the back door by mistake and our initial impression was that were had booked a room at a slum hotel. The door lock was broken on the first room we were give. We were moved to a second room and the switch triggered and the lights went out. It was fortunate that my husband has electrical skills since the staff didn't know how to reset the fuse. The shower was loose on the floor and leaked all over the bathroom. The staff didn't know how to drain the shower so we wiped the floor with bath towers rather than change rooms again. The staff didn't know a restaurant to recommend (other than the pizza shop next door) so we found one ourselves on the website. Internet was free and worked well. Again, the photos and descriptions on the web show a beautiful property. It still is pretty inside, but a dreadful place to stay. We felt sorry for the staff who tried their best to make the best of a bad situation.

• Very nice and helpful staff. It was too bad that the problems they tried to resolve for us were beyond their control. They did take some money off our bill and paid for the taxi to the airport.

• Except for the kindness of the staff and the cleanliness of the hotel, the rest of the service was terrible.
